TOOL Pulls Out All Stops For CD Package
May 9, 2006Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL's new album, "10,000 Days", features some of the most elaborate CD packaging ever seen, with stereoptic lenses built right into the cover art so that fans can look through photos and artwork inside the CD jacket in full 3-D. The band has previously done equally impressive packages for its "Aenima" and "Lateralus" albums. Drummer Danny Carey told Launch that TOOL's album designs were inspired by a previous generation of rock artists. "We all grew up, I think, listening to bands like PINK FLOYD and YES and, you know, the art-rock bands that always tried to create this fantasy thing that was larger than life, you know, and that was a big inspiration for sure," he said.
"10,000 Days" was released last Tuesday (May 2) and industry reports suggest that it could sell over 600,000 copies in its first week of release, which would easily land it in the No. 1 slot on Billboard's Top 200. Sales figures will be released tomorrow (Wednesday, May 10).
TOOL is currently on a 15-city North American mini-tour that brings it to Denver, Colorado tomorrow. A larger U.S. trek is planned for the fall.
